My Own Hot House

My own hot house is a perfectly built 1960 Brick Rambler. My girlfriend Kim and I are the second owners of the house. We bought the house via an estate sale. For some – a scary concept for us – Perfect! The house was built by the owner who was a general contractor. When we first looked at the house it was filled to the brim with excess equipment and a file cabinet filled with architectural drawings.

The house was built to withstand a bomb. In the basement you can see what looks like are steel support cross beams supporting the infrastructure of the house. Each wall was hand installed with a lat and plaster material that has the texture and support of cement. In case anything caught fire in the house each room would still be standing.

One of the best parts of the house is all of the custom woodwork the owner hand installed. Each bedroom has built in drawers and sliding closet doors made from birch plywood. All of the woodwork is hand made from for the closets to the trim. It is crazy what this fella did to build this house.

I can go on and on about the quirkiness of the house…. But I will save that for other posts. Throughout this blog I will post Hot House of the Week, Green Remodel Alerts and fun little items I have in my own Hot House.
